Nature has more than one way of throwing a wrench into our travel and camping plans, and it doesn’t always involve weather. Sometimes other natural disasters can strike.
While only a few places in the Western United States host active volcanoes, earthquakes are becoming more numerous and in places they’ve never struck before, due to large-scale fracking and mineral extraction operations. And depending on drought and wind conditions, wildfire is a danger that can strike almost anywhere at almost any time except in deep winter snows.
