I took a bottle of red wine and a glass out to the parking lot with me. This was the closest I was going to get to relaxing all weekend, and I wanted to make the most of it. I knew I wanted to start painting, but first things first: There was some wiring I wanted to move around.
Unless it had been changed from the original, that microwave was the same 110v type I used in my apartment kitchen! Apparently there isn’t any such thing as a true 12v microwave—they simply suck too much power for there to be much of a market for them in RVs, even though just about every new RV comes with a 110v model built in.
Instead of letting it frustrate me that I was a month behind schedule, I looked for the things I could and should do while prepping for painting.
Perhaps to help those of you who wish you could be doing the same thing feel a little better, I want to share in this post some of the things that I do have trepidation about, because there are some. I accept that, in exchange for the excitement and wonder and adventure, there will be things that aren’t so great.
There’s a good possibility that before I’m done, I will also have read Kerouac’s On The Road, and maybe a good many other road books. But I rather doubt that any of them will have the impact on me that another book did.
After making an appointment for the installation earlier in the week using a very simple and fast online reservation interface, I showed up at the Uhaul Store off 25th Street in Easton for the trailer hitch and electrical harness installation.
I can’t paint or wallpaper yet without worrying about things being affected by the cold, so I started with a task that didn’t depend on it being nice and warm, just tolerable. I began installing the kitchen backsplash.

I decided to start building an electrical power system that is robust and sustainable. Unlike people who just use their camper a few days or weeks at a time, mine has to function reliably, 24/7/365.
What I’ve done this week is upgrade the interior lighting from incandescent to LED.
